MFW SS19: Fendi

FIFTY SHADES of sophisticated earthy colours, all equally gorgeous, were presented at Fendi’s SS19 show at Milan Fashion Week.  Down at the usual Fendi show venue, on Via Andrea Solari, the choice of traditionally elegant palette was counterbalanced with ultra-modern shapes, and notably, the come-back of the decade – cycling shorts.

The material of choice was leather, used in coats and suits, accessorising transparent skirts and jackets – no matter how much Fendi plays with the garments, the outfits always come out timelessly chic and elegant. Take as example the futuristic look above: where luxury intercepts with modernity, with an inconspicuous comfort.

The models walked out on stage from a huge Fendi logo, made in collaboration with a modern artist Hey Reilly, followed onto the catwalk that was lit up in mild millennial pink. However modern, the looks were feminine: skirts and dresses dominated the collection, many with flowing drapes and soft embroidery – transforming the manifestation of femininity but never neglecting the femininity itself. The vivid orange colour was signature to many standout pieces, such as the below pleated skirt with a graphic printed shirt over it, highly coveted by Glass.

Besides neon bowling puches and utility bags with quilted Fendi log, the collection craftily incorporated a handyman’s accessory. The leather, multi-pocket utility belt, to be worn with or without the noted cycling shorts, and while the opinions might differ on the choice, Glass approves bringing this sporty item back into play.
