AW19: Pronounce

IF there is one thing we can take away from the Pronounce show, it’s coloured contour lines. Models walked to the beats of heavy bass music in sharply tailored trench coats, with neon stripes outlining pockets as well as creating abstract lines. These lines were said to represent beams of light, hence the title of their collection: Beam of Light.

This collection was inspired by Thomas Mailaender’s Illustrated People photographs, and the designer-duo Yushan Li and Jun Zhou took this quite literal at times by adorning their shirts and backless tops with hand-sewn piping or textile collages that constructed an abstract shape resembling a face. Each referencing influential Chinese artists such as poet Gu Cheng.

If the neon details didn’t catch the attention, the sparkling jackets – almost mimicking tweed – sure did. The vinyl navy power suit with white detailing was a strong contender for favourite look, but then a wool plaid two-piece in browns hues made its appearance on the runway and became an instant Glass favourite.

This collection intends to represent every single one of us, every beam of light as they call it, making no distinction between male or female. Casting a light on the road to the future of fashion if you ask us.
