AS announced today, Kim Jones will be leaving his role as artistic director for menswear at Louis Vuitton, a position he has held for seven years. The London-born creative will present his final show for the fashion house tomorrow; but before we look to AW18, Selfridges have launched a pop-up of the designer’s SS18 collection that debuted last year.
Presented in retro-pop colour scheming, the department store space uses surfboards, a vintage vehicle and multi-coloured monkeys to compliment the clothing. Referencing exotic islands and an escape from the everyday, Hawaiian print-shirts and palm-tree scarfs are joined by staple leather goods that are given an update of pink and blue trimmings.
The lightweight fabrics and luggage holders additionally adopt an 80’s font, one increasingly used by the designer. An absolute highlight of the SS18 collection is the classic monogrammed keep-all and backpacks, quintessential the brand, presented in a futuristic silver colour way. The new versions of the bags communicate a picture of modern opulence, clean, current but classic, representing knowledge of fashion and a luxury lifestyle.
