STEVENTAI’s clothes have always been the uniform for confident women that stands out from everybody else for all the right reasons. His AW18 collection was no exception.
The collection showcased the designer’s continued refreshing take on relaxed silhouettes. Moreover, he played with symmetry in terms of colour and structure. This included pleating one side of a skirt and using a mixture of two different tones of velvet in a suit.
Steven Tai chose a colour palette of mainly muted pastel colours, which was juxtaposed against the bold colours and maximalist prints included such as couch florals and an abstract print resembling Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. This maximalist approached continued within the fabric manipulation. The designer ruffled and pleated pieces to give character to pieces that were fairly simple.
The collection lacked accessories, which drew more attention to the garments. Models held a selection of bags and umbrellas in transparent vinyl. The vinyl was also layered over delicate fabric which created the sportier look that the designer is known for. All models wore ribbed French heels.
Similar to his previous collections, technical fabrics were used throughout, but this time round it was matched by the large amount of velvet pieces.
Standout pieces included a green trench coat that complemented the couch floral print dress it was worn over and a yellow poet shirt with ruffle detailing across the chest and sleeves.
