Haute Couture Fall 2017: Guo Pei

MAGICAL, idyllic, romantic – these are the best words to describe  Guo Pei’s Fall 2017 couture collection. Gaining popularity in the west, thanks to Rihanna’s 2016 Met Gala yellow dress, the models walking in the Paris show wore floor-length ball gowns, cocktail dresses in an assortment of silhouettes and contour. With the back-drop of a secret garden theme – it was a revamp of Disney princess garments perfect for this century.

The Chinese designer infused her culture and roots to the collection and had models adorned in Pei’s first capsule collection with jewellery brand, Chopard. They also wore platform heels which complimented the outfits.

As hard as it was to choose, a Glass favourite was the layered off-the-shoulder top in a highlight blush colour with a fitted shimmering red fit and flare skirt. The model also wore a diamond collar necklace with a hanging emerald square. The simple block colours work together to create a classic and striking look.

Another stand-out look was the shiny iridescent dress. The skirt of the dress draped to replicated a water-fall, short at the front and longer behind finished with a silver/gold piping lining. Embellishments formed above the right breast and continued up towards the left sash wrapping around the left shoulder.

Traditional ball gala corsets were also seen throughout the collection as well as metallic blue and purple sweetheart neckline dresses – multi-coloured and silver metallic were also popular. A kaleidoscope purple decorated sleeveless top was matched with matching shorts which had layers of the material attached to the shorts creating a skirt illusion. Likewise, also seen was the silver flare trousers accompanied with a gold one shoulder top with a train.

Guo Pei’s collection blended the fairy tale dream with haute couture creating the perfect fantasy.
