Comme des Garçons collaborate with artist Katerina Jebb for Blackpepper fragrance video

JAPANESE fashion house Comme des Garçons have announced their collaboration with British artist Katerina Jebb on a video for the brand’s newest fragrance, Blackpepper.

The 20-year-long creative partnership between Jebb and Comme des Garçons has resulted in How To Enjoy Reality, described as “a celebration of the liberating power of fragrance and the new Blackpepper scent”.

Blackpepper has warm, dry Madagascan pepper cracking against fiery cedarwood. And rich, fragrant Akigalawood (patchouli, agarwood) fuses with the caramel resin of tonka Bean.

Offering a counter-view to the traditional perception of perfume as an object of luxury, the video shows an absence of sentimentality, a rejection of the omnipresent stereotypes and persuasive publicity machines that dominate the fragrance market.

Currently the subject of a retrospective at Musée Réattu Arles, Katerina Jebb was a clear choice for the project. Of working on the project, Jebb wanted to explore fragrance outside of traditional advertising, saying that “the possibility to express ideas that would not ordinarily be diffused in conventional advertising” drew her to the project.
