White Post Cafe, Hackney Wick – offering nightlife, workspace and more…

LOCATED among the cobbled streets in the heart of Hackney Wick is the White Post Cafe, a cosy haven of ‘70s office style warehouse space and colourful decor. Since opening its doors in 2014, the White Post Cafe has welcomed everyone from the local community and beyond with open arms – offering a spacious and adaptable site for young children, family and even dogs to visit during the week, students or freelance workers needing somewhere to concentrate and, as well, West Ham supporters who either drink to celebrate or drink to drown their sorrows.

Located right by the Olympic Park and Hackney Wick Overground station, the White Post Cafe is a welcomed addition to the busy evening streets of The Wick, its white walls and large windows that lead to a terrace along the canal make it feel open and light, offering something different to its rustic and low-lit neighbours.

In the main cafe area, you can expect to see the likes of fashion designer Pam Hogg, and British artists Gavin Turk and Cedric Christie come to enjoy the many events hosted throughout the week. On Monday nights, or should I say Monday Knights, you can join in with a light-hearted chess gathering from 7-9 pm. On Thursdays there is an open deck DJ night, open to those who are keen to have a go on the decks or to enjoy the tunes of other emerging talents.

Fridays offer a funk night with resident vinyl Dj Afromuza (Wick Radio) spinning your favourite tracks from the past, the present, and at points, the future. Recover on Sunday with a White Post Cafe breakfast – their bagels and poaches eggs are insane – then visit the adjoining vintage market that takes place every Sunday from 10 am. If you can hang around until evening then you’ll get to enjoy one of the regular live music events, held exclusively with Sofar Sounds.

The White Post Cafe is not only a place to work, eat, or party, but it is also a place that shines a light on the creative efforts of the community that it is so proud to be a part of. Working closely with Creative Wick, White Post Cafe champions its long-term relationships with those in the arts and supports The Corridor Project – featuring group exhibitions of artists from all stages in their careers.

On March 2, the White Post Cafe will be hosting Sanatorium 2.0 – a night of DJs and visuals where sonic remedies are prescribed for February blues. Like the majority of White Post Cafe events, entry is free. Hosting free events for people to come and enjoy is a rarity nowadays in the nightlife scene in east London, so we couldn’t appreciate it more. White Post Cafe offers a refreshing and welcoming approach to recreation that differs from what we traditionally think of when you mention a cafe.

It offers honest food, a range of independent drinks, decor that is comfortable and not just for style, and events that are all about making friends and memories. The atmosphere in the place is unique, you feel comforted by the friendly presence of others and yet simultaneously completely undisturbed. This balance makes the White Post Cafe perfect for all your desires, whether you’re tapping away at your laptop with coffee in hand, or tapping your feet at midnight to live music and DJs, it’s a place for everyone.
