Vivienne Westwood releases their AW19-20 Campaign with a backdrop of the Barbican

VIVIENNE Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler release their Vivienne Westwood AW19-20 campaign amid the backdrop of the Brutalist architecture of London landmark, the Barbican. The timing could not be more perfect, this month will be the Barbican Estate’s 50th anniversary. Designed by architects Chamberlain, Powell and Bon on a site that had been previously bombed during the Blitz, the Barbican opened in July 1969, and has since become one of the most recognisable cultural centres of London.

The Barbican centre has been a creative space for the husband and wife team for years, the couple states, “We love the Barbican, we go there on a regular basis over all these years, mostly to listen to concerts, home of the LSO. It’s a place which always surprises you – the building is exciting, there’s always something new to discover. We went to see ‘The Tantalus’, a play by John Barton. He summed up the whole of Greek mythology in his own composition. The theatre of the Barbican is wonderful, the staging is so versatile. The play took all day, from morning until night, we had intervals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it was one of the greatest events of our life together.”

The campaign features the brand’s signature modern punk attitude

It is only natural then, that the creative duo would make a national tribute to the historial city space with their AW19-20 campaign. Photographed by Juergen Teller, it features models Jordan Barrett, Duckie Thot, Shin Hyeonyi, Chloe Pearson and Nicolas Duée. Combining the exposed concrete landscape with the modern punk detailings, the campaign is signature of the Vivienne Westwood brand.
