The Peekaboo Project – bags and benevolence

When you let 10 of the most culturally resounding females loose in the Fendi atelier, each united by a Great British creative charm, a drive for innovation and a common goal to avail those who unfortunately are beyond down on their luck, you have the makings of an efficient charity initiative. Respectively, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cara Delevingne, Adele, Jerry Hall, Georgia-May Jagger, Tracey Emin, Zaha Hadid, Naomie Harris, Tanya Ling and Kate Adie make up the resounding delegates who have been chosen to embody the Peekaboo charity cause in order to raise money for the charity Kids Company in collaboration with Fendi.

The high-profiles involved, each highly conversant and distinguished within their sectors, have been allowed to personalise their very own signature Peekaboo handbags by Silvia Venturini Fendi herself, who warrants Fendi’s maxim, “Nothing is Impossible”. The classic fur house’s ceaseless cool has put faith in the bags which carry the initiative, with each artisanal creation currently on display at their stately new flagship boutique on New Bond Street, which Glass was bowled over by during its exclusive grand opening earlier this month.

Undoubtedly, the unique bags will pique your your interest, so take note that the pride of place Peekaboos are available to you through the dedicated online auction (ending May 30). The proceeds from the auction are set to be donated to Camila Batmanghelidjh’s inner-city based Kids Company, aiding their vital work which seeks to provide heartfelt practical, emotional and educational guidance to grievously vulnerable children and young people confined to often harsh urban environments without a helping hand or pair of open ears.

Batmanghelidjh, and Fendi alongside her, says that “for most children, their mother’s bag is a treasure trove, full of good and fun things. For traumatised children who are being harmed, their mother’s bag can be a source of horror and despair.” And to no end, it’s certainly touching to consider how meaningful it is for all of those supported by Kids Company to know that complete strangers’ care and want to help.

Hence, making the compassionate support extended to the project by those who have created the tremendously collectable bags all the more worthwhile. From the playful dissidence of Cara’s doodled “superwoman” crest bag, to Zaha Hadid’s calmly considered tête-à-tête with chic geometric lines and Jerry Hall’s ultra-glam offering in lacquer red crocodile, inspired by Oriental culture, the array doesn’t end.

The peekaboo bag, a symbol of Fendi’s very own ingenious savoir faire has taken several captivating turns throughout the course of bringing each celebrity’s wildest creations to life, and the dedicated auction site is readily on hand to allow you to pick your swank cream of the crop among the Peekaboo litter.

The heartfelt inscription on actress Naomie Harris’ personalised monochrome peekaboo, currently the hot favourite, reads, “Truth Love Freedom”, and that philosophy is the signature of this project and Fendi’s creative core as well. It really is all about giving.
