Richard Mille launch the RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman

RICHARD Mille’s Creative and Development Director, Cécile Guerat, found inspiration for the brand’s latest watch in the 1970s. She notes that the “intense glamour of the disco era resided in a multiplication of colours and textures”; she “had to find a way to make this idea tangible”.

Enter, the RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman, a watch encrusted with a spectrum of precious stones in the rainbow tones of the golden age of disco.

This launch comes two years after Richard Mille brought us the RM 71-01, the black and white palette of which emphasises the joyful exuberance of the 71-02. Inspired by the quintessence of the ‘70s, club culture, and the birth of electronic and disco music, the watch is rendered in a variety of glitzy colour and gem combinations. Both the dial and case are encrusted with diamonds, amethysts, sapphires, and a host of other precious stones set in geometric patterns that conjure the glamour of retro lamé, rhinestones and sequins.

The dials are ornamented with a careful selection of stones that, talisman-like, represent specific qualities. These include malachite, associated with inner balance, lapis lazuli with vision and pink opal, known for its healing qualities.

Significantly, the RM 71-02 is fitted with the CRMT1, an extraordinary technological feat given the movement‘s slender 6.2 mm width and weight of 8 grams. This is a union which embodies Richard Mille’s dual mastery of style and technology.
