Richard Mille debuts the RM 60-01 Automatic Flyback Chronograph Les Voiles de St Barth

FOR OVER a decade, Swiss luxury watchmaker Richard Mille has pledged their support to the Les Voiles de St Barth — the prestigious sailing competition on the island of St. Barthélemy in the French West Indies, started in 2010 by French sailors François Tolède and Luc Poupon.

Unfortunately, back in February, it was announced that the regatta was cancelled for a second consecutive year. Therefore, to ensure the event endures through these turbulent times, Richard Mille, the regatta’s headline partner, has launched a dazzling new limited-edition timepiece, the RM 60-01 Automatic Flyback Chronograph Les Voiles de St Barth.

With all proceeds from the sale of Richard Mille’s RM 60-01 going to local causes in the Caribbean island of St Barths, the timepiece is “proof of its long-term commitment to one of the world’s leading regattas, through thick and thin,” says the brand.

Designed with sailing regattas and competitions in mind, the RM 60-01 is marked by the watchmaker’s signature functionality, boasting all the essential features required by a skipper on deck. In particular, it features a unique three-dimensional rotating bezel which reveals the cardinal points and enables sailors to find their direction without a compass.

Powered by the automatic-winding movement RMAC2 calibre with a 55-hour power reserve, other notable features include a flyback chronograph and oversize date display at noon with a month indicator, a 60-minute countdown timer at 9 o’clock and a 24-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock, making it the perfect wristwatch for traversing the high seas.

The real highlight, however, is the orientation of both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres requiring zero calculation. The UTC hand points towards the sun. Then the rotating bezel — crafted for the first time in Carbon TPT® — needs to be set for the UTC hand to indicate the local hour displayed on the bezel — the compass headings North, South, East and West therefore align themselves with the actual direction on the Earth’s surface.

Imagined in the regatta’s signature colours and punctuated with the Les Voiles de St Barth Richard Mille logo on the glass back, the RM 60-01 Automatic Flyback Chronograph Les Voiles de St Barth boasts some of Richard Mille’s most outstanding features to date, setting it high and above other nautical timepieces on the market today.
