Poltrona Frau celebrates 110th anniversary with collaboration with artist Felipe Pantone

CELEBRATING its 110th anniversary, design brand Poltrona Frau has announced a special collaboration with contemporary Argentine-Spanish artist Felipe Pantone to mark this special occasion.

Reinventing one of the house classics, the Archibald armchair, the designer used the ColorSphere® as inspiration to come up with a bold pattern to inject some vibrant colour onto the leather.

Reimagined in a gradient grid, red, oranges, yellows, whites and blues push the chair into the future as Pantone’s signature perspective of blending the muted tones of analog with the digital present translates into interior design.

Speaking on the process, the artist says, “We ended up choosing Archibald as the base for my work because of its minimal frame, but also the unique characteristics like the arms of the chair and the details on the backrest. The idea was to use a very minimal and iconic design and to juxtapose it against my graphics, which are very loud and very dynamic”.

“An important purpose of this anniversary collaboration is to shift Poltrona Frau’s perspective towards the future – not only in terms of our first collaboration with an international artist of the this nature – but also on the theme of environmental protection,” explains Nicola Coropulis, CEO of Poltrona Frau.

“The armchair is made with the innovative Impact Less® leather that, in addition to prioritising sustainability, which has always distinguished Pelle Frau®, is now even more respectful of the planet in a unique limited edition armchair”.

In keeping with the numerical significance of this anniversary, only 11o chairs will be produced, each custom made and an extra miniature scale model of the Archibald will be available to purchase.
