Philipp Plein Dynasty 2019 Resort Collection

NOSTALGIC reflection on the iconic 1980s TV drama Dynasty gave the inspiration for Philipp Plein’s 2019 Resort Collection, presented in the opulence of the celebrated La Jungle du Roi villa in Cannes. This party boy’s paradise hosted the runway in its exotic lush garden by the pool, inviting guests to enjoy a literal champagne fountain.

Centred around the idea of rebel, the show featured Dawid Bowie’s Rebel Rebel as a soundtrack and the singer’s Ziggy Stardust-era lightning bolts painted across some of the models’ faces. This symbol from Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album cover also appeared at the entrance, where the wall of white roses welcomed celebrities with a sparkling Philipp Plein Dynasty sign, as a warning of event charged with high voltage power.

On the gold glitter catwalk, the models, among others featuring Alessandra Ambrosio, Winnie Harlow and Sara Sampaio, displayed the strong and sophisticated attitude of this 70s-inspired collection. While the looks embodied the actual characters of the Dynasty, they remained true to the rock’n’roll spirit of Philipp Plein brand.

The fashionable intriguer Alexis Colby inspired the mercurial gold sequin suit while the more romantic side of the collection with flora and fauna prints and denim-on-denim look was an allusion to Sammy Jo, Heather Locklear’s gum-chewing bad girl. Equally bold were Men’s dollar-bill print shirts and suits, python biker jackets and embellished cowboy hats, once again juxtaposing the 70s serenity with audacity of glam rock.
