PFW SS15: Carven

Breaking the monochromatic colour scheme to include a dash of yellow, Carven opened the show with golden hints to overbalance the neutral shades. The statement colour remained subtle yet distinct as it appeared in sashes and accessories. Investing in a pop of colour or a touch of snake skin, it was the small details that threw the collection in a different direction. The bold tone clawed its way into more of the garments, leaking into oriental style prints that portrayed nude Asian women.

Inspiration hit with the Eastern theme; Carven designed clashing prints of colour, focusing on the colours of the Japanese flag-red and white. Displaying Asian scenic prints, combined with mandarin collars to exude an oriental vibe, Carven’s SS show was a uniting alliance for east meets west. The scantily clad women appearing on dresses were modestly positioned and reflective of traditional art.

Ironically, Carven conservatively chose to cover up the models with high necklines and added layers of jackets. Silhouettes were simple, above the knee dresses hung close to the body and the block lines created the illusion of a fitted waist. Short sleeves combined with loose, open jackets created a boxy look that was reminiscent of kimonos.

The homage to the orient allowed Carven to produce an enchanting collection that took inspiration from traditional Asian art and design. From pattern to shape, the eastern vibe was present in each garment adding a touch of the exotic to a Parisian brand.
