FEMININITY and the Parisian spirit is embodied in Chloé’s most recent AW19 runway collection. Encapsulating the essence of everything Chloé, we were given ruffles, lace trims and an updated Tess bag, the true Paris it-girl attire.
Grids on grids, Chinois wallpapers and tapestries were just a few of the prints that came parading down the runway this collection. A multitude of colours, dimensions and textures, there was never a dull moment. High-neck blouses – a staple of Chloé – were revamped and repurposed to snoods, turtlenecks, and Victorian collars. Moments of ‘70s inspirations with brown tones, full-length aviator coats and denim numbers, a cool-girl and can’t touch attitude exuded throughout.
Sleeve trimmings in lace with the softness and fragility of chiffon floated down the runway, contrasting the heaviness and warmth of the argyle knits. The wafting dresses referenced the fairytale theme and how they connected to nature, “I love dresses straight out of fairytales. That are the colour of the moon. That are as bright as the sun.” Reflecting Natacha Ramsay-Levi’s musings came earthy shades and cerulean sea blues.
Juxtaposing the whimsy and delicacy of the fairytales were the kilts, Prince of Wales checks and outerwear: armour and protection against the harsher terrains and villains. The collection was an allegory of the women: the ups and downs we all experience, there are days which are tempestuous and other days which are serene and light, making both a political and sentimental statement.
Accessories stole the show. We became reacquainted with the snood, layered with beaded necklaces, statement earrings and cuff bracelets. Developing the nature motif, was jewellery was embellished with horns and feathers.
Chloé transported us into a garden from a fable; a garden of blooming laces, rosy jacquards and deep-ocean knits. A fantasy brought to life.
