PFW AW18: Lanvin

MINIMALISM is a key attribute that Lanvin has excelled at for recent seasons, and nothing has changed for their AW18 collection. As the first look makes it debut the dim-lit surroundings act as a blank canvas, enhancing the effect of the intricate pleating and fabric manipulation. With monochromatic beginnings, the delayed introduction of colour allowed for a greater impact.

Set against the black backdrop, the collections vibrancy comes from colour. Flaming orange ombré and gold satin appear electric in contrast to the dark runway. With colour doing all the talking, garment silhouettes are kept simplistic and sophisticated. Knee-length hems and palazzo trousers contributes an air of sophistication, with contemporary aspects coming from asymmetric biker jackets and bold accessories.

Limited use of embroidery and print continue to put emphasis on the vivid use of colour – amplified further through the use of luxurious materials in abundance. The clash of heavy and lightweight fabrics, along with matte and sheen fabrics, gives the collection depth and movement. A base of black with accent colours in exciting blues, yellows and pinks brings a graphic aesthetic that radiates youth, finalising in a cigarette pant and translucent mac that captures the essence of minimalist Parisian fashion.
