PFW AW15: Louis Vuitton

As soon as the favoured girl Freja Beha Erichsen hit the runway in pointy leather boots with a big white buckle at Louis Vuitton’s AW15 show wearing a big white fur coat, resembling a polar bear or even the Yeti, carrying a travel case in her hand as a handbag, it was clear we were in for something special.

The 1960s influence was undeniable as models appeared in mini-skirts with little buckles and often matching jackets, chain belts around their hips and knitted coordinates with flared sleeves and hems with a slit just above the cleavage – some of the metallic ones were slightly reminiscent of Jane Fonda’s futuristic Barbarella in the most elegant way possible. Firm polished leather was the material of the moment in the form of jackets at times layered underneath a jumper or another jacket with matching skirts, coats, trousers and dresses with a long front zipper.

The collection had a very refined look overall with smart suits (worn with mesh tops and bralettes underneath though), leopard print encrusted with crystals, elegant dresses or tops adorned with lace or puffy sleeves. The creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, added a few puffer jackets to the collection to bring them into fashion so that we don’t have to feel ashamed for wearing them when it’s freezing outside. There was room left for fun too with jellyfish print and furry handbags.
