PFW AW14: Miu Miu

Miuccia Prada hosted her AW14 catwalk show for Miu Miu in PFW, this season, at the grand Palais d’Iéna venue. Scaffolding and clear plastic material was placed inside the venue and three tiers of guests watched on as around 50 models descended the imposing staircase before reaching the catwalk.

The garments featured mainly a bright palette of fresh and bold colours more characteristic of spring – than its opposite season and the light layers of garments presented such as rainjackets, rainboots, windbreakers, sleeveless vests, short miniskirts, and stiletto sandals left viewers wondering what time of year was being represented on the runway.

Regardless Miu Miu’s collection for AW14 still holds true to the brand’s heritage, presenting looks that are both desirable and luxurious, and certainly unique in their own way.  Highlights included clear mac jackets and footwear made of water repellent material, along with stiletto sandals with unique detailing on the heels, both details representative of the scaffolding and plastic from the show.

Sports detailing and colour palettes from SS14 were evolved into quilted nylon jackets and dresses. This fabric being one of the Italian designer’s favourite textiles which she has spent a great deal of time perfecting and mastering.

Mui Mui this season has its usual emphasis on utility as well as design. Of her collection, Prada comments, “It had to be more real, more wearable, less pretentious. What is normal, what is real, is what is important. In Paris you go slightly more grand, but this time I went, ‘Who cares?’”
