Paris Menswear SS16: Givenchy

At Givenchy this season, in his latest blast of high-style menswear, Riccardo Tisci took pseudo-religious brutalism to new heights. While his direction this season was guided by a higher power, it swerved unsteadily in between divine in the classic fashion sense à la Diana Vreeland and simply divine in the biblical sense, naturally the former was a whole lot more effective.

As for the pieces themselves, messy yet chic and racked with faded images of Christ like a dishevelled Fresco opened up the collection and improved as they evolved, stained in a pure, watery shade of aqua. Tisci then got all starry eyed and opted for a tessellation-style print of graphic symbols of the sky embellished onto jean. At least he was still looking to the skies? Continuity is always a nice addition to a collection didn’t you know.

This focus on stars and stripes, or patriotism realness if you prefer that, made way for the luxe sportswear stance that Tisci is renowned for and Givenchy is now widely celebrated for as a house. Admittedly, it was some of his best. The bold fashion personality then proceeded to whitewash the rest of the collection and stick to a chic monochrome scheme that reminded us that his Givenchy is still firmly engrained in dressing to the nines, but doing it with a little bit of flair.
