Paris Fashion Week: John Galliano SS2014

Bill Gaytten worked hard in following in the footsteps and continuing to design for the John Galliano label after the furore around its founder’s departure. A brave man and taking a new direction after the exhausting fall collection, we think Gaytten may have found his groove with this spring/summer collection.

Heading in a new techno pathway, the collection had colour, synthetic and cartoon kick. There were short, flaring dresses, belted at the waist; in fuchsia neoprene and monochrome silks with geometric shapes. Huge metallic platforms with sharp floral corsages along with eye-popping embellishments of laser-cut petals and punched perforations were seen throughout paired with visors and racing bike helmets from milliner Stephen Jones. To finish off a handful of gala gowns ended the show made of sheets of organza and chiffon that looked glamorous and more fitting to the loyal Galliano customer.

Always tough to steer the direction of a label, but Gaytten hopes this move will engage the Galliano customer and the high fashion elite.
