NYFW18: Tom Ford

BOLD colour and prints predominately take over the collection in a blend of luxury sportswear and traditional tailoring. Think animal print, headbands, sequins and fur – Tom Ford’s AW18 collection transported us straight back to a 1980’s disco.

Putting female empowerment centre stage, with barely a skirt in sight, the pantsuit ruled the runway. Models strutted down the runway as cat women; luminous leopard print blazers in acid green and red are paired with matching leggings.

Outerwear proved to be the highlight of the collection, sporty, oversized jackets, boxy-shouldered longline fur coats, Ford pairs masculine silhouettes of oversized biker jackets with balloon sleeves juxtapositioned with a barrage of faux fur, patchworks and sequins, the collection echoed many themes from Ford’s menswear line.

Models swapped their stilettos for sequinned adorned kitten-heels and sling-backs, paired with fishnet socks, donning tiered mini-dresses in a range of sheer multicoloured leopard print, accessorized with metallic headbands and oversized hoops. Leggings are revamped into bold metallics and sequins, paired with his signature sleek tailoring perfect for a day to night look.

The show concluded with a look which emulated the whole collection; an embellished minidress consisting of wild animal prints and glitzy sequins, stitched patchwork style and paired with incandescent pink tights.
