NYFW SS16: Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg did her most to show that her designs can still be a force to be reckoned with in New York this season. Revisiting a flurry of the point-blank-glam boho luxe codes that she championed in the seventies, Diane managed to give each piece a modern and entirely exotic pick me up.

From jumbled up lengths to various forays into lush ethnic prints set against explosive block colours in the passion fruit colour palette, the mood at DVF was as classy as ever, with the woman’s designer still designing for women who like to feel like women, as her famous motto goes.

Elsewhere, the army of modern day supers, including Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Binx Walton, underlined the aforementioned ethos and truly embodied the contemporary, fresh opulence of the garb they had adopted. Granted, the metallics, high-waists and bounding jumpsuits aren’t going to move mountains in the industry anytime soon, but Diane’s output is still as vivid and applicable as ever.
At the end of the show the perpetual purveyor of potent femininity claimed that the collection was inspired by the first painting she had ever brought and going by that, SS16 was a modem day masterpiece if ever there was one.
