NYFW SS15: Son Jung Wan

Referencing Yin and Yang, Son Jung Wan certainly designed her spring collection with duality in mind. The show began with a series of shift dresses in bold jewel tones of emerald green, magenta, navy, and cobalt, presenting Son’s version of colour blocking. Pleats and ruffles were stiffer, with geometric swathes of fabric sculpted around the body. Strong gold diagonals accentuated asymmetrical hemlines, framing the figure dynamically.

The second half of the show was in a dramatically different colour vein. Minimalistic pale cream and beige ensembles were punctuated with shimmering iridescent sequins and fabrics, reflecting the designer’s play on dualism. Raw edges and unhemmed skirts gave the garments a slightly undone effect, offsetting the meticulous embellishment and giving her designs a cool, easy vibe.
