Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters don’t show collections that scream “we’re the darlings of the fashion industry.” They present thoughtful, playful, and witty turns of phase – in textile and structure. Even callous, cynical industry veterans looking for flaws see The Creatures of the Wind SS15 Ready to Wear runway as intriguing. It’s no wonder that Women’s Wear Daily has put their look on their NYFW issue three of the last five years.
“Pattern mixing” isn’t the right term for the considered juxtaposition of historical and cultural patterns. The opening look, with its classic blue and gold palette, includes two Delft-inspired prints, one of which almost hides under the voluminous jacket. Progressing the runway, Gabier and Peters move into simplicity reimagined. A knee-length leather circle skirt leaves last season’s skater skirt in the dust. A striped jersey top accentuates a refined, high-waisted trouser. Even the closing gowns reuse shape, pattern, and structure – to covetable end.
