NYFW AW14: Zac Posen

Zac Posen showcased a mere 25 looks for his Autumn/Winter 2015 collection catwalk show hosted in his hometown New York City yesterday.  The range started out with smart business wear and progressed to his famous eveningwear designs very quickly.

Sharp-looking tweed skirted suits and classic black jacket ensembles were cut above the knee and showed off various aspects of Posen’s design techniques for which he is well-known  – including pleating and draping.

The eveningwear consisted of long frocks and evening gowns fit for black-tie dress standards.  Long robed-like garments featured trains of fabric trailing behind the narrow silhouette, while some off-the-shoulder ballgown silhouettes were as wide as the catwalk aisle.  Silks and satins in bright and vibrant colours such as mermaid green and pumpkin orange ensured all eyes were focused on the runway.  Several gowns were of tulip style, a hybrid of narrow and wide silhouettes.

Posen’s design ethos is different than his fellow colleagues in industry and are grounded more in the silhouettes he chooses to use, and is not directed by pop culture trends or ideas.
