Norma Kamali pre-fall 2019 collection debuts

FOLLOWING last season’s for woman-and-men debut collection, Norma Kamali once more focuses on gender fluidity. In the contemporary world women’s and men’s roles are changing, and fashion should embody these changes.

Fashion survives on the key constant that styles keep changing and so do our opinion on what is considered sexy. According to designer Norma Kamali, clichéd presentations of women – such as cleavage – are no longer sexy. Showing less skin and making the body talk through the clothing is the epitome is sexiness in 2018.

She translates the concepts of modern sexiness and gender bending through athelisure. Fitted tracksuits show off the body, yet are made elegant by pairing them with floor length satin skirts and stilettos.

Overall jumpsuits and fitted suits are plastered with vibrant and contrasting prints. Ranging from blue mosaic prints, stripped trousers and a warm toned graffiti-like design, the pre-fall collection is a true print galore.

Elegance is added to the collection through by an indulging in fringe. Proving there can never be enough fringe, a metallic coat is layered on top of a vibrant pink flapper-inspired dress. If Great Gatsby were to have thrown a party in the 21st century, the royal blue jumpsuit would’ve been the perfect attire. Concluding her collection are some metallic evening frocks. Yet the absolute must-have piece must be the plastic trench coat, perhaps symbolising transparency as well as making it the perfect staple for a layered look.

It’s all in the details. The looks are presented on two male – including actor Ezra Miller – and female models and the redesigned labels include dual sizing info, both confirming and emphasising the gender fluidity of the collection.
