Modern vintage at The House of Peroni

Back again for a third Season, Londoners can immerse themselves in the very best of contemporary Italian style and culture as The House of Peroni takes residency in London’s Lincoln’s Inn Fields.

Inspired by the spirit of 1963, the year that Carlo Peroni created Peroni Nastro Azzurro; The House is freely open to visitors. Italian architect and product designer Andrea Morgante has curated this year’s extravaganza which sees a wealth of specially commissioned works and collaborations including Bottega Wapping reimagining Italian classics inspired by the 1963 hit parade, mixologist Federico Riezzo experimenting with molecular mixology and designers taking over entire rooms with audio-visual installations.

Other highlights include design-duo Carnovsky and their newly created RGB wallpaper that reveals different patterns as the light changes; Daniele Papuli’s specially commissioned paper sculptures; Francesca Pasquali’s full-room installation; and a new specially-commissioned installation inspired by the birth of Peroni Nastro Azzurro from the hand of digital artist Leonardoworx.

Throughout the month, The House will feature an exciting weekly schedule of stylish Italian events, Glass went to try out the special silk scarf-printing class from by Glasgow-based surface and textile design studio artisanal Bespoke Atelier holding a workshop on the eternal appeal of the silk scarf as the fashion staple.

Timeless yet intrinsically linked to the glamour of the bygone era, the silk scarf is an accessory that will never go out of style. Silk scarves’ ability to embellish an outfit and adorn the body like jewellery makes them a wardrobe staple. Some of the best designers of Italian silk scarves include Salvatore Ferragamo, with some beautiful vibrant and layered designs. Ferragamo takes on a realistic yet illustrative style focusing in dynamic images of plants, flowers and animals which appear bold and powerful. The varied and unusual compositions are often approached in a painterly fashion creating a wearable work of art.

Inspired by the timeless chic of Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn; the design masterclass looks back at the history of the Italian printed silk scarf, the designers that popularised it, and the women that made them iconic. Glass were fully immersed in the experience and created our own custom piece using a 100% silk crepe de chine scarf with a bespoke design using the classic screen printing technique, and hand finishing with ink painting to add extra intrinsic detailing.
