Milan MFW: Giorgio Armani SS18

THE Giorgio Armani SS18 show took us on a journey from flight to landing all in one space – an aeroplane runway encompassed within the fashion runway. The audience was no longer in Milan, but in the world of Armani. The muted colours and textures were drawn together by tailored trenchcoats, pea coats, and button-down jackets. Blazers with slim lapels and slip-on shoes gave a more relaxed feel to an otherwise formal collection.

Shiny greys, off-blues and neutral beiges with tints of gold throughout were the main colour palette used by Armani. A variety of textures were also incorporated, reminiscent of clouds against sky. The double meaning of runway is prevalent throughout the show, with simply Made in Armani projected onto the runway backdrop.

Accessories have been kept to a minimum, despite the odd bag or pair of sunglasses, which could possibly have been to resonate with the pilot vibe. The simplicity and clean lines of each piece represents the intricate engineering and somewhat plain-ness – pardon the pun – of a plane itself.
