MFWM SS22: Tod’s

SURROUNDED by the sandy brick architecture of the Cantina Petra winery, Walter Chiapponi presented his SS22 men’s collection for Tod’s, expanding on the label’s repertoire of timeless classics.

Inspired by the adventurous imagery of artist Peter Beard, this season saw leisure take centre stage, with fluid silhouettes and soft, pastel colours comprising a summer-focused wardrobe.

Illuminated by the scorching Tuscan sun, the line-up spotlighted the brand’s innovative craftsmanship, as staple garments came reinterpreted in new, unexpected materials; a new canvas Jack Biker jacket came with leather gommino pads – the brand’s signature pebble motif – at the elbows; a windbreaker was constructed from a mix of checkered patterns; the humble hoodie came reimagined in supple suede.

Developing on the idea of an urban safari, the offering delivered airy nylon trenches in statement hues; canvas shirts and field jackets worn over Bermuda shorts; lightweight safari jackets and chambray trousers and the brand’s signature T Jacket, punctuated by contrasting leather patch pockets.

On the accessory front, recurring styles took on exaggerated proportions. Desert and Chelsea boots were elevated with thick rubber soles, while the penny loafer and moccasin came deconstructed and stamped with a glittering T Timeless logo.

Other new additions included the Dots Run trainers in nylon and leather in contrasting colours with enlarged gomminos on the soles, the Camera Bag — inspired by the bags carried by photographers — and roomy backpacks and weekend bags in canvas and leather marked by an expanded lion crest.
