MFW SS22: Alberta Ferretti

IT IS about living in the present for Alberta Ferretti. It is what she believes is inherently feminine whilst remaining grounded to who you are. But during a time where predictability is far from reach, we have to make the most of what we have, and it is with this mindset that she approached her SS22 collection.

Taking the female form and craftsmanship, she set foot on designing a collection that focused purely on these elements.

Lightweight throughout and yet varying in extremes, the styles flicker between super short, floor grazing and midi, accommodating body forms and preferences, ideal for the woman who is used to months of comfort.

Layering was implemented to cover and uncover, reducing to show the back or waist hinting at a more sensual side to the collection. Fringes, knots, draping and weaving were a reoccurring theme across the styles helping create undulating motions as the models walked down the runway.

Looking closer at the creations, resin inserts helped tie together dresses and crinolines were shaped to form feminine-like armour that worked well with more masculine, structured tailoring in the jackets.

As the collection evolved so did the aesthetic into evening-wear and the instantly recognisable spirit of the Alberta Ferretti dresses returned to the runway. Silk, linens and chiffons enhanced silhouettes as the models looked as if they were peacefully gliding past the audience in an angel-like manner.

Though Ferretti is putting a pause on Italian extravagant glamour, she is realistic with her designs. Women love dressing up but it isn’t quite the same level as glamour prior to the pandemic. If living in the moment is the new trend, pass me some sandals and chiffon, I am ready for the unprecedented.
