MFW SS21: MAX MARA

THE Max Mara SS21 collection, themed Rebirth, Renewal, Reconstruction, instantly promises elements of revival and continuation after the difficulties of covid restrictions.

After the Max Mara Resort 2021 show was unable to take place in the Yusupov Palace in St. Petersburg, the SS21 collection – displayed in the grand courtyard of the Accademia di Brera – feels like a return to the magnificent settings of pre-pandemic fashion week collections.

The collection begins in shades of beige, light yellow and brown, with cinched waists and delicate gold detailing. The models wore bright, bold lips in red and deep burgundy shades, often accessorised with large, statement sunglasses.

For the second look, the model wears two light-blue purses around her neck, standing out against the light-orange dress gathered at the waist, neck and sleeves.

One element of reconstruction is the traditional tailored suit – the collection features a black pinstripe blazer and trousers, but the silhouette is relaxed, and the blazer becomes more oversized and lighter in blue and peach colours. For the finale, the models file down from two opposite staircases and walk around the bronze Antonio Canova statue before continuing into the audience.

The new collection showcases bold silhouettes, harmonious colours and skilful tailoring.
