MFW SS19: Roberto Cavalli

THE FOCUS of this year’s SS19 collection by Roberto Cavalli was the strength of the modern woman. As the models walked down the runway with an unbeatable confidence, the character could not but entice the spectators to start adding the ensembles to their shopping list.

Paul Surridge, this season, emancipated the brand from the conventional, discarding any unnecessary embellishments and passing the stage to the woman and her figure. The outfits were crafty designed to unveil the power of the body, emphasised by short hemlines and a tailored torso. The deconstructed dresses revealed the legs and the core, playing with the female sensuality, rather than sexuality.

Placing cycling shorts underneath the mini skirts and dresses was the liberating element that, in Cavalli’s view, defines the modern nomadic woman, who never takes a break from life but embraces the challenges on her way with invincible gracefulness. Combined with the chain-armour patterns, the collection showed that invincibility unconditionally goes alongside with femininity.

The new Cavalli logotype was flashing through the accessories, bags and jewellery, while the models walked down the runway in the mix of new Viper sneakers (originally designed for the men’s line) and chisel-toe silver boots.

The elevated sense of luxury was crucial to the collection – handwoven leather and silk, head-to-toe ensembles made with silver paillette embroideries, and maxi dressed ornamented with flamboyant prints – in today’s world, luxury means confidence.
