MFW SS15: Giorgio Armani

By now, we know that we can always count on Giorgio Armani to deliver. Speaking of counting, we practically count our blessings every day that he is still powering ahead with his vision of what fashion can be, and for the love of fashion, Glass thanks him wholeheartedly. Venturing further into his love of sophisticated exotica, the designer took us not quite under the sea, but nearby it, with dainty feminine pieces in sandy chiffons and silks encrusted with the aquatic splendour of sea blue embellishments. These kind of standout pieces topped the lot, however, as always with Armani though, there is always more to see. Snakeskin is handled with one of the most adept eyes and hands in fashion to make opulent jackets, proposing more and more ensemble pieces to flash a subtle metallic sheen throughout the collection.

Structure was also of importance, Armani demonstrating that he can still talk a talk that’s attuned with the more provocative, some may say “modern”, avant-garde trends, yet balancing this with the tailoring that put his name up in lights on the world’s most costly retail strips. Like ripples in the sand, the rest of his SS15 creations coasted down the catwalk, you may even notice a few faint sand-strewn prints if you look closely, with classic cardigan and palazzo pant combos in dusty shades of rock rounding off the more practical outfits.

This was a 86-piece collection of pieces though, don’t forget that Armani doesn’t do things in half measures, so by the time the final eidolon-worthy gowns took over the catwalk we had already reached a blissful oasis, untouchable, unreal and unequalled. Don’t even mention the nearabouts theatrical finale piece, a soleil speckled sand goddess incarnate. Who needs reality anyway, this is high fashion that lets you escape and do it with serious style.
