MFW AW19: Bottega Veneta

ALL eyes were on Daniel Lee’s debut Bottega Veneta show, as guests took place in a glass conservatory on Piazza Sempione in Milan yesterday morning. The new creative director set the tone and Bottega Veneta women, and man for that matter as this was a blended Fall 2019 show, is dressed in immaculately elegant daywear.

As could be expected, once again Bottega Veneta showed its exquisite craftsmanship in leather, with stunning gowns, pleated shirts as well as textured puffa jackets and skirts. A Bottega puffer jacket, however, is meticulously cut and executed in the most luxurious leather, almost taking the shape of a divine chocolate bar.

Menswear was comprised of loose-fitting seventies and extremely oversized blazer jackets, black leather biker trousers and slouchy knits with interesting cut-outs. Blazers were worn over black leather harness-like shirts and paired with knee-high brown biker boots that we instantly put on our wish-list.

As the show went on Lee increasingly experimented with colour and cut, fusing some red looks, leopard print and bright turquoise into the show. After a parade of suiting, a shimmery purple dress adorned with small rhinestones reflecting every sunray, orchestrated a moment of excellence. Yet even the most glamorous of looks were toughened up with some black biker boots. The Bottega women is a fierce woman, that’s for sure.

Bottega Veneta has become almost synonymous with elegance, proving this title with a light yellow, sleek cut coat came, showing its audience what effortless looks like.

However, the absolute showstopper came in the form of yet another coat comprising of hundreds of little white leather squares, once ewn together transforming into a stunning knee-length, slightly futuristic coat.

The Bottega Veneta Fall 2019 show is a wonderful paradox of sheer elegance and edgy ruggedness.
