Menswear AW16 Paris: Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci has made a name for himself as one of the most prominent menswear designers of today, and in Paris this past week his Givenchy tour de force struck gold once again. Showing his collection in a pink space so sugary-sweet it would scare the diabetic, his collection was anything but.

Ticsi took on one of the modern man’s sartorial essentials – the navy suit – and, rather than turn it on its head, subtly tweaked and updated it. Not that this isn’t still controversial – women have the little black dress, men have the navy suit, and messing with a classic is never advised, but Tisci can do no wrong.

Neon side-stripes on the legs and purple collars elevated the look to a modernist, sportswear level, something prominent throughout the entire collection.

After the initial round of sharp-n-chic tailoring, loose yet aesthetically trousers became the norm, adapting the athleisure trend rather than mimicking it. And if this more casual approach to high fashion has you reeling, never fear – a strong dose of aggressiveness came in the form of Cobra motifs, adorning sweatshirts and jackets, hissing at the front row as they passed, refreshingly juxtaposed against the sweetness of the location.
