Mac launches directions for SS19 beauty

BEAUTY brand Mac Cosmetics has released their beauty directions for SS19, their predictions of upcoming beauty trends and styling. Accompanied with stylised looks, Mac pinpoint healthy, vibrant, and refined makeup as the most desirable impression for 2019.

“I wanted to look at how that makeup gives you strength and presence,” says make-up artist Thomas de Kluyver. “It’s empowering, the process of putting on colours, experimenting, layering. There’s a hand-drawn, punky feeling to it. It helps to keep the character behind the makeup when the skin is really raw.”

2019 seems to continue on the trend that was popularised last year of a natural second-skin finish base. Mac also hypothesises understated taper eyeliner is the way to go in 2019, with MUA Terry Barber confirming “Liner has a slightly different narrative now – one that is more new DIY than old Red Carpet. It’s perfected, but still has elements of ‘raw’ to it, so that it looks cool.”

For those who struggle to perfect a stunning wing or achieve a Kardashian-level contour, 2019 is going to be your year of beauty. Mac suggests we are moving towards a softer and more natural beauty routine. The less complicated your regiment is, the better. A new form of genderless beauty is also being popularised, with Mac advising those seeking a more androgynous look to ditch the mascara and lipstick altogether.

The beauty brand finishes the directions by noting that this season make up is being taken back to the 90s’, especially through the rising popularity of the no-makeup makeup look. For those seeking inspiration, look to 90s beauty icons, such as Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Kate Moss.
