Louis Vuitton to present Cruise collection at Niterói Contemporary Art Museum

FRENCH fashion house Louis Vuitton will present their third Cruise collection at the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) in Rio de Janeiro, they have announced. The landmark building, designed by designed by famed Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, was built in 1991 and inaugurated in 1996.

Following a major renovation project, the Louis Vuitton show will not only mark the building’s reopening to the public, but will also celebrate the museum’s 20th anniversary. Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Women’s collections, spoke of how the setting “inspired” him right away.

“Following the Bob and Dolores Hope estate designed by John Lautner in Palm Springs, California, we continue the architectural journey that is so particular to the Maison Louis Vuitton. It’s about being transported into a relationship where nature, geography and architecture come together in the vision of a great architect, as was the case with John Lautner. With the 2017 Cruise collection, we’ll be discovering the vision of Oscar Niemeyer.”

Michael Burke, CEO and President of Louis Vuitton, also pointed out the significance of hosting the collection in Rio de Janeiro, the home of this year’s Olympics – “It will be my pleasure to welcome our guests to Rio de Janeiro, the beating heart of Brazil. With three months to go before the Olympic Games, the world’s eyes are on Rio and we are excited to be here at this time. Once again, we’re setting out on a journey of discovery to a different place with its incredible spirit and culture so well represented by the work of Niemeyer and this outer worldly architectural marvel. Showing their continued support for the venue, Louis Vuitton will present four exhibitions at the museum during the following year.
