London Collections Men SS16: Astrid Andersen

For SS16 Astrid Andersen, the unassuming thus rather unlikely eyes, ears and outfitter of the ultimate in uber-luxe high octane sportswear, got herself into some big trouble in Little China. John Carpenter’s whimsical 1986 cult classic that meanders between sci-fi and ancient-world fantasy was referenced in the press release along with the hip hop flavour that Andersen would be nothing without.

This made for a decadent foray into oriental-inspired loungewear in lurid shades of minty neons and pieced into power structured silhouettes.

Glittery cherry-blossoms and other ancient Chinese insignia’s decorated the saches of silk Andersen wrapped around her fashion forward male, whose worldly street cred was at its zenith. Establishing herself as the kind of sportswear designer who likes to brandish her name across the majority of her designs still hasn’t become a tiresome aspect of her designs either, proving with this season’s collection that she can regenerate her logo in a myriad of ways.

Elsewhere swathes of airy sweat tops which bared the oriental theme surprisingly well and lengthy robes which loomed over the body from the head downwards, fastened by striking emperor like hats made each and every one of Andersen’s latest ensembles stand out as the most arresting in the London sportswear strata.
