DANIEL W. FLETCHER is a promising young designer who is a graduate of Central Saint Martin’s and presented his fourth collection during LFWM this weekend.
“For SS18, I examine what it means to be young and British in 2017. I thought a lot about what I want my brand to say; who my customer is and what they would like to see in their wardrobe. The collection is now stocked in 14 stores which has given me a clearer understanding of what it is that I want to produce and stand for. Daniel W. Fletcher is about a considered approach to dressing. This season’s pieces are stripped back and traditional menswear is made to feel contemporary,” says the designer.
To create the SS18 collection Fletcher took his inspiration from the instability of the current political situation and designed 12 looks that represent traditional symbols of Britishness, but are also a mix of sportswear, streetwear and luxury. Classic trench coats and jackets are combined with some interesting fabrics such as nylon Ripstop, neoprene or terry-cloth, as well as leather and cotton. The designer was not afraid to play with colours using salmon pink or soft grey and also acid yellow which created a captivating contrast. Precise tailoring harmonises with webbing belts, pocket bags or bag straps trail.
Fletcher collaborated with Onitsuka Tiger that provided exclusive footwear and put the brand’s logo on each side of the shoe. Other eye-catching accessories were the vintage sunglasses from Cutler and Gross and also a cap with the word OUT on it, which has a deeper meaning for the designer but is also left for the viewers’ own interpretation.
