LFW SS22: Preen by Thornton Bregazzi

WHILE many designers have drawn inspiration for spring-summer 2022 on this new-found optimism, Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi have reflected on the past year. Unveiling their new collection that takes our copious amounts of television watching into account, the idea of on-demand, never-ending comes into account with their designs.

Described by the duo as a ‘kaleidoscope of colours’, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi delve into the imagination by presenting a look-book that reflects the familiar as animation is heavily hinted at.

Bright, patchwork knitwear is made from recycled materials, oversized cardigans hint at laziness and glitches are mirrored in slashes within skirts – only thing missing is a console. It wouldn’t be Preen without patterns and prints, and there is no shortage of that in the SS22 collection.

Florals are computerised and shifted to create graphic diamonds, and dresses are injected with volume as vegan leather and neoprene is sculpted to mimic armour.

The use of recycled and vegan fabrics translates directly into the inspiration behind the collection. If the clothes are from an idealistic place, potentially the setting of a television show, where the world is looked after and the lifecycle of materials is constantly being extended, then Thornton and Bregazzi have created something truly bingeable – a collection that has turned into a must-see.
