LFW SS21: Christopher Kane

CHRISTOPHER Kane has spent his time since lockdown experimenting with glitter. His glitter art now dominate this instagram account, from A4 portraits of model-esque girls to full-sized abstract works on canvas. Now he is transporting glitter onto fabric for his SS21 collection, named Home Alone – combining these an old with a very new passion.

While this LFW feels slightly off-kilter considering the current climate, Kane states that this was an exciting opportunity to step away from large scale shows and production, allowing him to scale back and focus solely on the design.

Colour, shape and texture forms the basis of the collection, as clothing becomes its own kind of canvas for Kane’s glitter art. Expect loud and abstract designs, almost other-worldly, with simple structures and silhouettes to allow full focus for the designer’s glitter work.

In comparison to the Christopher Kane AW20 collection, there is less variation of design and style — clearly in his attempt to step back and downscale for SS21. That isn’t to say the clothes lose their dreamy but surrealist quality that the designer balances so well. Looks are accompanied with it canvas equivalent, as the lines between art and fashion blur ever more.
