LFW SS20: Preen By Thornton Bregazzi

JUXTAPOSING masculine and feminine, hard and soft, is what Preen By Thornton Bregazzi does best, and their SS20 collection for LFW is no exception.

Darkly romantic but still effortlessly modern, Preen By Thornton Bregazzi was founded in 1996 by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi. The label is recognised for its deconstructed London cool that offers a fresh take on fashion staples.

The collection was one of extremes: leather and lace, ballet shoes and brogues, full length dresses and tracksuit bottoms. Lightweight, see-through garments were layered over robust elements. One look layered a delicate floral dress over a manga graphic skin-tight dress. Looks were alternately powdery pastel and gothic black. Shades of lavender were carried by ruffles, lace and asymmetric hemlines.

Attention to detail was exemplary – even the hosiery was embroidered with delicate flower heads weaving around the ankle. The beauty looks were kept natural. Hair was left natural, unworked and free, and make up was nominal.

Held in a warehouse in Vauxhall, the setting facilitated the celebration of bright prints and voluminous shapes, which were given the space to billow and spread across the large runway. The SS20 collection, with its energetic to-ing and fro-ing of diversity, colours, and attitude reminded us why the brand is a firm favourite of LFW.
