LFW SS20: JW Anderson

FOR LONDON Fashion Week, Jonathan Anderson explored the act of looking with his SS20 collection. The show, located just off Russell Square, deferred the definition of a singular meaning, instead it was one that pushed the audience to use their sense of sight as an experience in itself.

Noticeable about the collection was its approach to creating imminently wearable pieces – subtle and uncomplicated, there were a variety of fluted maxi and toga-esque dresses, jumpers featuring long fringes, while flowing trousers were wrapped at the ankle by  the ties of the sandals.

Redefining shape seemed to be another focus for the collection, traditional suiting was given a modern twist, blazers featured exaggerated hourglass silhouettes while trench coats featured boxy shoulders and fanned out sleeves.

Though more grounded in reality than previous seasons, the collection was as intriguing as ever, particularly the jewellery that was ornamented, cinched and wrapped around various blazers and dresses.  Simultaneously a marker of sensuality and armour, the crystal chains were wrapped around the bust but also became an embellishment on several skirts and blazers, their circular formation hinting at the cycle of fashion as a never-ending sequence.
