LFW SS20: ASHISH

TAKING place in Seymour Leisure Centre, more accustomed to a game of volley ball than a fashion show, Ashish debuts his SS20 collection. Never afraid to break from convention, the backdrop was more surreal than sporty, showcasing a live performance of mouth-chanting and wind chimes.

A new look for Ashish, the collection was more relaxed than previous collections, bringing in elements of street-wear – but, of course, with a punch of signature Ashish sparkle. Piecing together a fuchsia sequinned skirt with a blank white hoodie, there is definitely a more subdued feel to this collection, especially in comparison to his ultra-provocative slogan tees from previous seasons.

In true Ashish fashion, the designer refuses to conform to the concept of masculine and feminine, with a half-chest sequinned top was seen on a male and female model. In a bold statement against gender norms human nudity becomes a form of liberation. While the collection may not seem on the surface as daring as his previous SS19, there is certainly an underlying motivation that is characteristic of Ashish’s designs. A model also walked the runway with a branch of palo santo aloft – traditional used for ceremonial purposes, and believed to have calming and healing properties.

Think of the collection as a spiritual awakening, with a touch of Ashish glamour.
