LFW AW18: Malone Souliers

TAKING place at 12 May Hill, Mayfair, Malone Souliers’ AW18 collection made us look inside of ourselves, quite literally. Creative director, Mary Alice Malone, said the collection is inspired by anatomy and “Everything that lies beneath.” She went on to say, “I took my inspiration from anatomy because it’s this weirdly perfect, intricate construction that is beyond all comprehension.”

The footwear was draped across naked (well, some nude lingerie was thrown in too) ladies and gentlemen set up in retro-vibe rooms. The clad models looked very much like living statues who were mingled between anatomical bodies.

The collection mainly featured red and orange tones with lighter accents and mule silhouttes throughout. Many pieces looked to be inspired by blood vessels and veins as well as cells and DNA strands. Some of the pieces included embroidered bodies on knee-high boots, others included skins and materials made to look exotic but some plain too.

The presentation also showed Malone Souliers’ debut collaboration with Emanuel Ungaro, the renowned French couture house. The capsule collection is pre-fall and a polka dot lover’s dream come true as it married Ungaro’s house codes and archive pieces to Souliers’ silhouettes. The result was contemporary and fitted both Souliers and Ungaro’s brand aesthetics. A big well done!
