LFW AW15: Paul Smith

By the time of Paul Smith’s show on a late Sunday afternoon that became almost an evening as the show started about 40 minutes late, the weather got to its worst – extremely cold, wet and windy. It was therefore very fitting that the designer sent his models out with hair styled into wet-looking loose ponytails as if they had just come from the unfriendly outdoors.

Showcasing against the cold and industrial backdrop of Central Saint Martins’ atrium, Smith presented a collection filled with his trademark menswear-inspired tailored pieces in the form of loose-fitted trousers and culottes, suits, jumpsuits and long coats adorned with large pockets. The high point of the collection were his cozy-looking shearling coats and jackets in bright yellow or natural brown which the attendants would surely appreciate to keep them from the cold, as they would the hopefully waterproof lace up capes.

Sneakers, cross over bags and smoky eye shadow gave the models a “cool girl” attitude, pairing them with faded checkered pattern, tops and a jumper with crossed seems, tight polo necks or tops and dresses with a side opening fastened with big buttons. The favoured colours this season included dark burgundy, beige, black and navy with occasional pink in a form of an oversized coat or a silk tunic.
