Gucci debuts first high jewellery collection, Hortus Deliciarum, in Place Vendôme, Paris

CREATIVE director, Alessandro Michele, expands Gucci’s horizon even further following an incredibly successful show at Paris couture week 2019. The next momentous task on Michele’s pioneering agenda is to take the high jewellery universe by storm with the Hortus Deliciarum collection.

To achieve this latest mission, Michele makes the wise decision to open Gucci’s first ever boutique dedicated to high jewelry in Paris’ Place Vendôme, the emblematic epicenter of all things delicate, gem encrusted and beautifully intricate.

Hortus Deliciarum is latin for garden of delights. Michele describes the 200-piece collection as a result of his “eclectic quixotism vision” which draws up on his own personal motifs and the house’s distinctive iconography.

Hortus Deliciarum features a kaleidoscope of fascinating colourful gem stones, each of which evokes a floral forest in full bloom. The collection is inspired by a trio of themes including: an homage to classical emblems of eternal love, an ode to the majesty of the animal kingdom, evoking visions of mythic bestiary and ancient fauna, as well as singular solitaires redefined with maximalist allure.

Each gemstone is uniquely set in what Michele describes as “discordant symmetry”, representing his passion towards the distinct beauty of imperfection.
