Glass unwinds at the Waldorf Astoria Spa, New Orleans

NEW Orleans is most definitely on the rise, yet don’t think that the city is about to forgot its rich history. As one of the oldest cities in the US, it has a particularly iconic air about it, and walking into the Roosevelt New Orleans, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, only reiterates this mystery and romance. The grand property has existed since 1893 and has its own legendary past. In its original iteration as the Grunewald Hotel, the place became known for its dazzling nightlife, and is regarded as one of the country’s first nightclubs. Today, the Roosevelt’s Sazerac Bar continues that tradition, taking you back to the grandeur of old New Orleans.

To balance such boisterous fun, the Roosevelt wisely reserved a generous portion of the property for peace and relaxation. The Waldorf Astoria Spa is where you go when you’re seeking utter tranquility.

Other than offering an extensive range of spa services, from facials and body massages, to nail treatments and all-day experiences, the spa is renowned for carrying high-end beauty lines – it is one of the few spas in the region to offer skincare authorities Natura Bisse and Emergin C, as well as the excellent Kevyn Aucoin make-up range. It also provides a brilliant monthly treatment membership programme, The Spa Club,  which enables guests to participate in exclusive treatments at a great price, whilst also granting access to on-site fitness and spa facilities. If I was a local resident, I’d jump on the offer.

During my visit, I was treated to Natura Bisse’s Citrus Drench body treatment – eighty minutes of pure pampering and relaxation. It is a multi-step treatment that leaves your skin glowing via a highly concentrated Vitamin C scrub and mask. After an extensive exfoliation all over, a body wrap was applied following the application of the Soufflé Mask. Being cocooned with ingredients such as shea butter and absorbic acids provided intense hydration and brightening effects, and helped to create a smoother skin texture. After the wrap was removed, and I’d taken a quick shower in the private bathroom within the suite, my wonderfully considerate therapist finished things off with an opulent moisterising cream, which added to the glow.
