Glass tries out Moo and Yoo hair products

AH, a trilogy of trichology miracles, sorely needed as an appointment at the hairdresser, in this part of the world, is a bit like that old New Yorker cartoon with the guy on the phone looking at his diary and saying, “How about never? Is never good for you?”

Never is not good for me and my dry, brittle and lifeless hair. Miracles are welcome, one the guestlist plus one, and come in the form of the wunderbar ingredient in Moo and Yoo haircare products, Marula Oil, which in these products, is like a facelift for the hair, restoring life and lustre to formerly funereal follicles.

Based in Edinburgh, Moo and Yoo is a family-run brand with cruelty-free, vegan and environmental values at its core. Using only naturally-derived ingredients and recyclable packaging, the brand sells a high-quality, palm oil-free range of haircare products that deliver transformative results. You may be wondering, how can this be, after a relatively short (one week) testing period?

First let’s address the uber ingredient, which will probably, like argan oil before it, be making an appearance in a cosmetic, skin or haircare product near you. Marula oil is from South Africa and is, scientifically, occlusive, which means, it prevents water loss. When the kernel of the fruit ferments, it gets elephants drunk. It is also purported to increase fertility and the happiness of marriage. So far, so good. But can it pump up the volume in winter hair, my only interest?

Indeed, it can. These lightly scented, vaguely fruity, citrusy scented products, when used together on my lacklustre locks, do restore volume, texture and vitality to my usually wiry and bone-dry strands. Whatever winter and age suck out, these products put back in.  The mask in particular feels the most effective of the products, leaving my hair silky and bouncy but not greasy.

Off label, I put a pea-sized blob on my ends, which turns tired into tousled. I would go so far to say this is the best natural product for frizz, I have ever used – it tames without straightening and locks moisture in without looking like too much product.
