Since starting out in Sephora in 2008, Kat Von D’s beauty empire has grown from strength to strength and is now a leading high-performance make-up brand known for its long-wearing, highly pigmented and full-coverage collections. We attended the press launch of the new brow collection to find out more about the products and to speak with Steffanie Strazzere, a close friend of Kat Von D as well as a part of the close-knit artistry collective for Kat Von D Beauty, comprising of Steffanie and three other makeup artists.

Steffanie told us she has worked in the makeup industry for over 15 years and had never worked with a brand as authentic as Kat Von D Beauty, who makes products that are unique and for a purpose rather than for a trend. She said, “I think what sets us apart is the fact that we’re so long wearing, 24-hour claim wear. There’s no other product on the market that has that claim wear. But also, what sets us apart is the fact that we came up with three different types.

“The eyebrow powder is the first waterproof item on the market. As for the pencil, it’s tip is so fine to give you the faux microblade effect – no other pencil gives you that. We took things that had been in the industry for a long time and really perfected them and streamlined them in a way the industry had never seen before.”

Brow Struck is a unique 3D semi-metallic powder that mimics the natural sheen of real hair for real-deal dimension and volume. The powders can also double up as an eyeshadow. This is the first brow powder to deliver waterproof, smudge-resistant brows for up to 12 hours.

Finally, the Signature Brow Precision Pencil is an ultra-skinny pencil that features the first-ever 1×1.5mm elliptical tip, for a microblade look that you control. You can make them as strong, or as natural as you like and give you the confidence to achieve any custom brow look.

Kat Von D Beauty was kind enough to provide me with a pot of the Kat Von D Beauty 24-hour Super Brow Long-Wear Pomade as well as their Brow brush that featured impressive angled bristles of high-quality synthetic fibres that deliver effortless strokes. The synthetic fibres cleverly allow the product the slide off rather than bung up and clog the bristles.

I have been wearing the product ever since and something that has truly impressed me, aside from the fact it is long wearing and survives a dewy forehead on a sunny day, is the fact you need such little product to make a maximum impact. Not only is it longlasting in wear, but also longlasting for the longevity of the product. Buying a pot of the pomade is buying a pair of gorgeous brows for a year or more!
